If you’re looking for a powerful and versatile CPU for an AM4 build, then the Ryzen 9 5900XT is a great shout. The good news is that it’s only just shy off its lowest price ever right now on Amazon, coming in at just $282.99, a far cry from its $349.00 list price.

This CPU is a good call for those looking for something that offers excellent gaming and productivity performance, on top of excellent efficiency, and since it’s on the AM4 platform, you’ll be able to surround this processor with high-performance, but excellent value components too.

16-Core, 32-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor

What we like about the Ryzen 9 5900XT

Released back in mid-2024, this CPU was met with generally favorable reviews, notably when it comes to multithreaded workloads, but it also performed well with gaming too. Of course, X3D alternatives would be the way to go for the latter, especially as you don’t necessarily need all those cores and threads to get great gaming performance, but for those of you who are content creators, video editors, or simply working with huge data sets, this processor is a good way to go.

  • Core CPU specs: 16 cores, 32 threads, boost clock of 4.8GHz, 64MB Cache, and 105W TDP.
  • Excellent performance: You’re getting a lot of cores and threads here, which make it ideal for multi-tasking and heavy duty workloads. The cache is also on the bigger side, which should be decent for gaming at higher fps.
  • AM4 still alive and well: This platform won’t be going out of date anytime soon, and it still has a lot to offer.
  • Cost-effective: Coming in at significantly less than AM5 AMD CPUs, this also means that you can grab AM4 compatible components for less too, including motherboards, RAM, and SSDs.
  • Buy a cooler: You’ll want to check out our top cooler picks for this CPU, as this doesn’t come with one.

Is it a good time to buy?

As you can see from the graph above, it looks like this CPU has been trending down in price on Amazon since mid-December 2024, and has not been near its full price in 2025. However, since late April we’ve seen a significant drop on this CPU, and it looks to be staying that way with only slight fluctuations at the time of writing.

Based on this, we’d say that now would be a good time to buy this processor if you’ve had your eye on it, as you stand to save around $40 on its top-end price this year. That’s more than enough to put towards a Gen4 SSD, DDR4 RAM, or AM4 compatible motherboard.
