The Ryzen 7 9850X3D, 400 MHz Moar For An Extra $20

You Don’t Need New AGESA, But There Is New AGESA Too

It has come, the long rumoured and much awaited Ryzen 7 9850X3D is here … well the reviews are anyway.  It offers the same 4.7GHz base clock, 120W TDP, 96MB L3 cache and 8C/16T as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D but it’s Boost Clock is a new high of 5.6GHz which is a 400MHz boost over the original.

If this is a little disappointing for you, take heart in the fact AMD is only charging an extra $20 for it, so if you haven’t bought a 9800X3D there is no reason not to chose the new king of AMD’s consumer gaming CPUs instead.

It doesn’t offer a huge performance boost, Sebastian saw gains in Cyberpunk 2077 and a bit in Age of Mythology Retold though so your $20 won’t be wasted.  It was the same at The FPS Review, with Cyberpunk seeing the biggest gains, although they also saw a decent jump in Hogwarts Legacy.  If you already have a 9800X3D you can keep it and only be a little bit jealous but if you are running an older generation CPU then the Ryzen 7 9850X3D makes sense to pick up.

As long as you’ve saved up enough for the RAM that is.
