The Magic Of Availability
Dr. Lisa Su recently revealed in an interview that the Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs have become AMD’s best selling GPUs in the first week they became available. That is an impressive showing but the popularity does have a downside, it is now almost impossible to find an RX 9000 series card for sale at MSRP. This is a sad fact of life now, as it has been several generations since GPUs cost what they should. The price gouging isn’t quite as bad as what is continuing to happen with NVIDIA GPUs, likely in part because the supply of RX 9000 series cards is more consistent than the competitors, but it still hurts.
AMD have ramped up production of the cards and hopefully the as third party who actually sell the cards get more supply onto the market we will see the prices drop. She did not confirm the existence of the RX 9060, but it is pretty much guaranteed we will see that card in both 8GB and 16GB versions in the near future. This is great news for AMD and we should expect an impressive earnings report for this quarter. It is also great news for gamers as the success of the RX 9000 series should ensure AMD continues to focus on developing enthusiast cards at a time when NVIDIA’s focus is elsewhere.
